“Capturing the spiritual essence of the figures I depict is essential to my practice, and I work to transfer energy into every layer. In my paintings, each figure represents everyone, and no one, allowing the viewer to see some of themselves in my art. When I think about my work, I envision it hundreds of years from now on the walls of important collections across the globe. Therefore, my approach to every painting, and my technique, is something I take very seriously and with great integrity.
Every canvas is professionally constructed and has two coats of acrylic primer before it arrives at my studio. Next, I apply two coats of oil ground - a process that takes weeks to cure fully. Then, I begin my impasto-style painting, which involves several layers of oil paint applied with a palette knife to the surface of the canvas. Upon completion of the piece, and once dry, I apply thin layers of a mixture of resin and solvent, which works to bond the paint molecules and balance the sheen of the piece. Finally, the work is varnished.”
